Real Mom Moment
Laundry used to be one of those tasks constantly sitting in the back of my mind. Not because I didn’t want clean clothes, but because washing, drying, and folding felt impossible when there were already a million other things to manage.
Between working full time, homeschooling, and running a household, folding laundry kept landing at the bottom of the list. And honestly, even when I finished it, the results barely lasted.
Real Experience
I would fold everything neatly, stack it perfectly, and put it away, only to watch my kids dig through drawers looking for one specific shirt from six months ago.
Every folded pile would be destroyed in minutes. And I kept wondering why I was spending so much time maintaining a system that clearly wasn’t working for anyone.
What didn’t work
Folded clothes looked nice, but they required constant maintenance. My kids couldn’t keep stacks organized while getting dressed, which meant laundry felt undone almost immediately.
What helped
I stopped folding their clothes completely. My son now has baskets in his closet for pants, shirts, shorts, underwear, socks, and pajamas. Everything goes straight into the correct basket unfolded.
My daughter uses drawers instead, but the system is the same. One category per space, and dresses get hung.
The system that helped
Once folding disappeared, something unexpected happened. My kids started putting their own clothes away.
Organization stopped feeling overwhelming because it no longer required perfection. They just needed to sort items into the right place, and suddenly laundry became manageable for everyone.
They’re learning how to organize without the pressure of everything needing to look nice.
Real Win
Do my kids still make a mess while looking for clothes? Absolutely.
But now when I say, “Go clean your room,” it feels more manageable to them. Laundry gets put away faster, and I’m not wasting time folding clothes that get destroyed anyway.
