NEW The Translated Notes Series

Sometimes the lesson isn’t the problem. Sometimes the explanation is.

Sometimes kids don’t struggle with the lesson itself. They struggle with how the lesson is explained. The Translated Notes™ series exists to explain school concepts in simpler language so kids can finally understand what the teacher was trying to say.

Story or Problem

Where the Translated Notes™ idea came from

This entire project started because of my kids.

They weren’t necessarily struggling with the topics their classes were teaching.

They were struggling with how the lessons were explained.

Most of their lessons came through recorded videos, which meant something important was missing.

The ability to raise their hand and ask a question.

So we would watch the lesson together.

Then I would write out my own notes. The meat and potatoes of the lesson.

The part the teacher was trying to get across, just explained in a different way.

And that idea actually came from something we learned much earlier during speech therapy.

Sometimes a concept isn’t the problem.

Sometimes the explanation is.

And sometimes all it takes is hearing the same idea explained in a different way.

Once I started translating lessons into simpler explanations, things started clicking a lot faster.

Not because the lesson changed.

But because the explanation finally made sense.

Real Experience

Teachers can’t translate every lesson for every student

Teachers work incredibly hard.

But when a teacher has a classroom of twenty students, they simply don’t have time to translate every concept into five different explanations.

Doing that would basically require creating two separate lesson plans for every class.

One for the lesson itself.

And another one for all the different ways students might need it explained.

That’s not realistic.

Which means sometimes kids walk away from a lesson thinking they just “don’t get it.”

When really, they just needed someone to explain it a little differently.

That’s where these notes come in.

The Idea

Think of this like translating the lesson

My background is in data analytics.

And one of the biggest parts of that job is taking a huge amount of information and turning it into something people can actually understand.

Charts.

Summaries.

Simple explanations.

Instead of making people dig through raw data.

The Translated Notes™ series works the same way.

Instead of expecting kids to decode a complicated explanation, these notes pull out the important parts and explain the idea in clearer language.

It’s basically turning the lesson into a story your child can follow.

One Important Philosophy

I teach my kids to use their resources

One of the biggest things I try to teach my kids is this:

You are allowed to use your resources.

Charts.

Reference pages.

Notes.

Visual tools.

I don’t push memorization nearly as much as I push learning how to use the resources available to you.

Because when kids understand how to find and use information, they become much more confident learners.

And interestingly, something funny tends to happen.

The more kids use their resources, the more familiar the material becomes.

And eventually they memorize parts of it naturally anyway.

But without the pressure.

The Translated Notes™ pages are meant to be one of those resources.

How to Use These Notes

Use the search bar to find the concept you need

The easiest way to find the right notes is to use the search bar at the top of the Resource Center.

For example, if your child is learning about math concepts, you can type:

math

and all the related resources will appear.

If you’re looking for something specific, try searching for the concept itself.

Things like:

  • number line
  • even numbers
  • skip counting
  • fractions

This will pull up the notes and tools related to that topic.

You can also browse the sections inside the Translated Notes™ tab to explore topics by subject.

Shop Resources

Some tools live in the shop

Some of the resources connected to these notes are printable tools available in the shop.

These are usually simple visual aids designed to help kids follow along with the concept.

Things like charts, reference pages, or guided worksheets.

If you ever want to see all of those tools together, you can also visit the shop directly.

That’s where you’ll find all of the printable resources in one place.

Pick one concept your child is learning right now

If your child is currently stuck on a lesson, start with that topic.

Search for the concept or browse the sections in this series.

Read through the explanation together.

And if there is a visual tool or worksheet attached, use it as a reference while they work.

The goal is not to replace what the teacher is doing.

The goal is simply to make the lesson easier to understand.
